The traditional Seven Sisters is a well-loved, but seldom made, quilt pattern. That should change with this simplified version which has completely eliminated set-inseams. Instead of being entirely made with 60 degree diamonds and dot-to-dot seams, it is all straight line, edge to edge sewing. The class will include setting the quilt together and a pair of bonus blocks that us similar techniques.
Fabric: The minimal amount of fabric is two fat quarters, one background and one for the Seven Sisters. The block looks good in reproduction prints, both 19th century and 1930s. The classic blue and white is always a good choice. Bring several combinations if you want to decide in class. It is probably better to think of the class as learning how to make the block and then plan a quilt and select fabric for a quilt after you see the block sizes.
Materials: Sewing machine in good working order, with quarter-inch foot if you have one, basic sewing supplies; rotary cutter, mat and ruler (at least 3”x18”); templates and ruler provided for class use. Visit www.fromMarti.com for more product info.

The Apple Core is an old traditional design with a lot of appeal. Learn how to use a small mat board to cut pieces for a charm quilt. Discover how to match curves and use a stiletto to get perfect curves. Sew partial seams to connect rows of what appears to be a difficult seam to sew. Continuous line machine or hand quilting and bias bindings are covered in class.
Materials: Apple Core book and template QS16; large rotary mat; small rotary mat, small rotary cutter, Quick Grips; Stiletto; glass head silk pins 0.50 mm steel shaft. 100% cotton thread; small scissor; sewing machine in good working order, basic sewing supplies.

Why agonize over those breaking needles and shredded threads that you’ve bought for machine quilting put them in the bobbin when you can simply flip over the quilt and quilt it up-side-down? In this class, we will problem solve your way through a multitude of decorative threads and yarns (yes, we do LOTS of couching!) We’ll first try different tips and tricks I’ve acquired over the years to put the threads through the top; if that doesn’t work, we’ll bobbin-quilt it! Get familiar with your machine and adjusting both top and bottom tension while learning all those cool free motion quilting patterns that don’t need marking. This is information packed class in just three hours!

LUNCHEON / TRUNK SHOW SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 12:30PM – 2:00PM |
If maneuvering a big quilt through that “little opening” is overwhelming and sending quilt tops out is too expensive, “Machine Quilting in Sections” is the answer.
You can machine quilt on you own machine without the expense or delay of sending them out. Just divide your quilts into smaller sections – easy to manage and easy to assemble. Marti will share assembly methods and bring many quilts that were quilted in sections. She will also show the low fat option.
Materials: Paper and pencil (this is a lecture/demo)

I just love a make and take – don’t you?? In this class, you’ll use your favorite large print fabric, learn cool quick-cutting and piecing techniques, and take a quilt top home! What more can you ask for in three hours time??
