101M – MARTI MICHELL “Perfect Patchwork Templates”- Kaleidoscope Creations
Full Day Workshop ($60)
kaliedoscopes

The Kaleidoscope pattern is easy to make, but because of the design possibilities, even advanced quitters can enjoy Kaleidoscope style blocks and variations. Discuss design and color possibilities and sewing techniques; then cut with the Kaleido-Ruler, a tool Marti has designed that gives you the guidelines for cutting all the triangles in the block. It eliminates making templates, simplifies accurate cutting and can be used for many different sized blocks. It is laser-cut from thick acrylic for rotary cutting, but can be used with a pencil and scissors. Best of all, Marti supplies the rulers for you to use in class.

Supply List: Cutting supplies (rotary cutter, ruler and mat – at least 12”x18”); your favorite routine sewing supplies (scissors, pins, thread, etc.); sewing machine in good working order with extension cord.

Fabric: minimum requirement is to bring one half yard of a light fabric and one half yard of a contrasting fabric. They should look good together. These will be used to learn the technique. In the afternoon there will be an opportunity to try fussy cutting, working with stripes and other variations if you want to bring a small assortment of additional fabrics or you may prefer just watching the demo. Visit www.fromMarti.com for more product info.

201M - SHAR JORGENSON “Quilting From the Heartland” – Storm at Sea Tablerunner
Full Day Workshop ($60)
Storm at Sea

INTERMEDIATE (beginners can take it if they have good sewing skills) Untamed waters reflect themselves in this quilt. A square within two or more squares surrounded by pieced combinations of weird angles creates a dramatic quilt design every quilter would like to make. The illusion of curves is created by unusual angles in the design. The blocks go together fast using Peaky and Spike template set. With the amount of time allowed students can expect to complete a table runner. Students will get enough information to continue with a larger quilt of their own.

Fabric: COLOR#1: ¼ yd light, ½ yard dark, ¼ yard print, ¼ yd inner border; COLOR #2: ¼ yd light, 1/3 yard medium; BORDER: 1-2/3 yd outside border, binding and back.

Materials List: SP1 Peaky and Spike template set; Quick Grips; America’s Best Book 100; small rotary cutter; glass head silk pins 0/50mm steel shaft; large and small rotary mat; 6x24” Omnigrid ruler; stiletto (optional – Shar shows how to use it is class); small scissor; 100% cotton thread for piecing.
